Port Townsend Web Developers Meetup

Meetup #14 — BATTLESNAKE

It came from across the channel, ignoring international boundaries, hungrily feeding and growing, getting smarter, stronger, and more battle-ready with every movement. Deftly maneuvering to outlast and vanquish its competitors, it made landfall with a deadly purpose: to overtake everything and everybody in its quest for victory.

Battlesnake.

The name alone is enough to spark some intrigue, and the hype video at https://battlesnake.io does a nice job of continuing to build excitement. And as it turns out, it's a lot of fun!

Next meetup we will talk about what Battlesnake is, show how it works, and then spend the remainder of the session building AI snakes to compete on the battlefield. At the end of the meetup we'll have a free-for-all battle royale for snakes built by first-timers and send a lucky winner home with a Suberb Snake Prize Pack™. In the process, we'll learn about REST APIs, JSON, and AI. Bring your laptop so you can follow along!

I want to give special thanks to our new sponsor, Cro Software Solutions, and our old steadfast sponsor, the Colab, for providing us with pizza and a space to meet! And of course Fort George Brewery for the delicious adult beverages.

See you on the battlefield!

Battlesnake, an AI-driven multiplayer version of the classic arcade game Snake, was created to bring developers together in a friendly, co-operative environment. The goal is to showcase the technical talent and diversity in the Pacific Northwest and to encourage the next generation of developers and founders to continue growing our amazing community.

Check out the zero-to-snake documentation to start building your snake on Mac OS, Linux, or Windows: https://github.com/battlesnakeio/docs/tree/master/docs.

Starter snakes are available in a number of coding languages at: https://github.com/battlesnakeio/

Once again we will be at The CoLab and we will be doing announcements and show-and-tell before the presentation starts. If you have any questions, feel free to post in the comments.
